2008 Philippine Blog Awards

I didn’t win anything in the recently concluded 2008 Philippine Blog Awards…. but my wife did!  I guess you now know who’s the boss in the family.

It’s nice to hear that my choice for Bloggers’ Choice won - Batang Yagit! I’m sure he’s very thankful to his campaign manager, Jehz.

Microsoft vs Apple - I’m a PC

Google screenshot.Do you think Apple hijacked the keywords “i’m a pc”? When you search Google for the phrase “i’m a pc”, the first results that come out is an Apple web page.

“I’m a PC.”, of course, is the slogan that Microsoft uses repetitively in their new series of advertisements post-Seinfeld.

I don’t know if I should laugh or cry. I feel bad for Microsoft. Aesthetically, Mac/OSX is better. But Microsoft Windows/PC products are very useful to me right now.

What are you gonna do? Most application developers look to be compatible with Microsoft first, before Mac operating systems.  If all functionalities were equal, I would prefer Apple products because they look cooler. Read more »

Metallica’s Death Magnetic

Death MagneticA funny thing happened to me last night. As I was going home at around 7:30pm, I put the car radio on and switched to NU 107. (I was all alone, by the way.)

I heard a familiar heavy metal mellow intro. By “familiar”, I mean I know the song is a heavy metal one but I don’t necessarily know the title of the song. I thought, “Hmmm, new band. Feels like they know what they are doing though.”

“Wow, I really like the guitar riffs on this one. ” I said to myself. The distorted guitars chugging away was very “clean”.  The voice was very powerful - suits a heavy metal band (some metal bands have weird-voiced vocalists). Read more »

Cebu Pacific Reserved Seats

Cebu Pacific Reserved SeatsI booked  Cebu Pacific plane tickets for my wife and 2 of our employees yesterday and was surprised to see a reserved seating feature!  I LOVE IT!

It’s like watching a movie at Greenbelt 3 and clicking (to reserve) your desired seat straight from your computer.

I really love this feature because I was not built for travelling.  I get nauseous when I ride a bus, a boat or a plane.

In buses, I have to sit near the front part of the bus, beside a window to avoid vomitting.  I also avoid riding a bus with tinted windows because not seeing the outside clearly makes me dizzy.

In boats, well, wherever you sit or sleep you get nauseous so I just jack up Bonamine tablets like crazy. Read more »

I Vote Batang Yagit, Your Honor

The 2008 Philippine Blog Awards Bloggers’ Choice Award is humming and I am casting my vote. I vote Batang Yagit.  Here’s why:

  1. Bisdak rules.
  2. Dabawenyo rules.
  3. He looks cool.
  4. His blog posts are cool - I can relate to most of his posts.
  5. Master Jehz sort of convinced me to vote for Batang Yagit.

I Love Google Chrome

Yes, that’s right. Hold it, I’m not a bandwagoner. I just like it because:

It has a good user interface. The toolbars don’t take up so much space. I also like that the tabs are at the topmost portion of the browser.  It’s a genius idea really.

Conventional browsers have their tabs at the 2nd or 3rd row of the toolbar/menu.  The page titles shows on the tabs, as well as, on the window titlebar - a bit redundant.  Chrome removed the title from the titlebar and moved the tabs there, brilliant. Read more »

How much of the Philippines have you visited?

I like this little app from Eugene Villar. It’s simple but makes you feel good about yourself.

My Lakbayan grade is C+!

New Browser Competitor: Google Chrome

There’s a new browser in town: Google Chrome. If you can judge a book by its cover, I like it already. I like chrome, silver, aluminum and similar looking objects.

So why is Google doing this? Aside from the usual world domination (just kidding), they say they spend most of their time working inside a browser.  So, they thought of bringing together the “best elements out there”. Read more »
