Top 10 Emerging Influential Blogs of 2008

I believe I am antisocial. I generally don’t want to participate in conventions, seminars, eyeballs, social gatherings and the like. I have a number of reasons why I am like this but for now, I’d like to disclose one: I’m too lazy to go somewhere.

Now, trying to socialize online is another story. I don’t have to go somewhere to “mingle”. I just need my laptop and an Internet connection. To tell you the truth, I’m still too lazy to socialize online but this year I’m thinking it’s worth a try. So here’s one of my first attempts to do such. I would like to join Janette Toral’s writing project. Her project is simple - just list the top 10 emerging influential blogs of 2008. A comprehensive guideline is written here.

Here’s my tentative top 10 list:

  1. Creature Lover - this is my wife’s blog about cats and animal welfare in general. She owns about 65 cats now. All of these cats are stray and some of them come as far as Cebu. (Our goat from Iloilo never made it during the rainy season last year.)
  2. Blog Badly - a blog about blogging in a funny and sarcastic kind of way. Everything I hate about “make money online” blogs, the blog author already has written about so far.
  3. Davao Deli - Davao is delicious, ’nuff said.
  4. A Landslide Threat - I used to live in a village at the foot of Shrine hills. My mother-in-law still lives there and I am concerned about the area’s safety now that there are several subdivisions being developed on the hill.
  5. Lakers Today - The greatest sports franchise in the world.
  6. Brian Gorrell’s Blog - I’m not necessarily entertained by this blog but it truly is emerging.
  7. PRC Board Exam Results - Unofficial site for various board exam results.
  8. Visit Sagada - I’ve never been there but am hoping to, someday.
  9. Evil Woobie - romance/dating guru?
  10. Missing Carlo - a sister writes about her autistic brother.

Most of the blogs I like are not emerging but established. Maybe you’d like to suggest an emerging influential blog?

    Please do check out http://filipinovoices.com, it’s fairly new, around 1 month old, but many of the articles have already caused a stir in the blogosphere. It is a collaborative blog on politics and social concerns.

    Some of the best political bloggers are writing here…

    While it seems the bloggers there are seasoned writers, I believe this is a blog aggregator site. I don’t think this particular blog site qualify.

    I’ll browse the individual blogs though and see if they qualify.

    I hope you could check out http://www.missingcarlo.com . It is a blog about a sister’s experiences dealing with an autistic younger brother. I know that autism is rarely discussed in the blogosphere, but with the increasing number of children with this condition, we should learn to embrace it :)

    I’m likewise compiling my list and I share your sentiments on how some of the blogs that you like don’t qualify anymore.
