Garry Kasparov vs Anatoli Karpov, rematch!

kasparov-vs-karpov

Garry Kasparov and Anatoli Karpov, both chess legends, are seeking a rematch to revive the game of chess.  Yes, I bet you didn’t know that there’s such a thing as “chess”.  Quick, name me the current world chess champion.  I bet 95% percent of you wouldn’t know without googling it.  I don’t know either.

When I was 20 years younger (ehem!), I easily knew the answer – Garry Kasparov.  Partly, because he was always the champion and nobody could defeat him until his protege, Vladimir Kramnik did.  However, I’d like to think he was beaten because he was already past his prime.

I haven’t heard of Karpov (I never intended to since I hated him.) but I know Kasparov is active in Russian politics opposing the administration of Russian leader Vladimir Putin. Read more »

MacBook Pro 15.4″ 2.8Ghz 4Gb RAM

macbookpro-02

Yep, I recently bought one… and count me in as one of the growing Mac converts.  Thanks to Windows Vista, I finally took the courage to switch.  Windows just plain sucks.

This package came via DHL and ordered via Apple Philippines (website).  There’s no stock available in Davao (I waited for a month) and I didn’t want to fly to Manila.  It was a bit more expensive than retail but don’t you just love it when they deliver it to your doorstep?

What are you waiting for? Join na!

Here are more photos of the un-boxing.  I don’t care what you think, I’ve-got-a-MacBook :P

Manny Pacquiao vs Ricky Hatton

manny-pacquiao-ricky-hatton

The rumored Manny Pacquiao vs Ricky Hatton fight hits a snag.  Team Pacquiao insists on a 60-40 revenue sharing with the lion share, of course, being taken by Manny Pacquiao.  I’ve also read some reports that Team Pacquiao is even insisting on a 65-35 deal.

Ricky Hatton is insisting on a 50-50 deal because, one, it was already verbally guaranteed by promoter Bob Arum and, two, because, he’ll be bringing a lot of paying British folks.

Ricky Hatton’s lawyer points out that while Manny Pacquiao is big in the Philippines, Filipinos won’t go to Las Vegas or pay to watch via pay-per view. Read more »

It’s my party and I’ll cry if i want to…

It’s my birthday today, November 27, 2008. IT’S MY PARTY AND I’LL CRY IF I WANT TO…

I found out that that phrase means…. something negative:

The song lyrically portrays the emotional downfall and public humiliation of a teenage girl who, at the birthday party she is throwing, is humiliated when her boyfriend, Johnny, abruptly leaves her and takes up with a girl named Judy, to whom he gives a ring to show his love for her.
The song’s chorus, “It’s my party, and I’ll cry if I want to… You would cry too if it happened to you,” quickly became a part of American pop cultural language as a phrase used to describe being utterly humiliated and miserable during an event that is supposed to be a happy occasion.

I guesss….
