Google Chrome’s new beta is out

chrome-beta

A new Google Chrome beta is out.  They say it’s 30% faster, yadda, yadda, yadda.  So far, I only see 2 things I like that matters to me as of now:

  1. It now sports a truly working “visited link” color which I found annoying before.
  2. Themes! (enough said)  Granted, I don’t think the public can submit themes just yet but the initial set of themes are groovy.  User-submitted themes are mostly crap anyway.

Internet Explorer 8 Release Candidate

ie8IE8 is finally out of beta.  Aesthetically, IE8 has improved – the bulging tabs (for tabbed browsing) are replaced by a more subtle gradient version.  Functionality-wise, I believe there’s nothing significant to note about.  The other browsers have most, if not all, of them.

In my opinion, browser wars are now reduced to performance (page rendering speed and crash prevention), security (passwords and other private data) and user interface aesthetics.

I’m happy with the aesthetic improvement of IE8 but I still don’t like that the refresh and stop buttons are on the right side of the browser.  I have stopped using IE (as my favorite browser) when Firefox came along.  I still use IE8 for testing though. Read more »

Google Chrome’s Negatives

Chrome Logo

I can’t disregard my Firefox browser after all.  Chrome is great and I would want to label it my favorite browser but it’s just not yet mature.  Here’s a list of Google Chrome’s negatives, at least from my perspective:

  • It still doesn’t have any plug-in capability – at least not the one that Firefox has. I picked up a habit of checking the Alexa ranking of every website I visit and Firefox has an Alexa plug-in that I’m highly dependent of.
  • A link is not colored appropriately when it has already been visited.
  • It can’t remember field values – this is very handy when I fill up a form to buy electronic plane tickets (and the like). Read more »

I Love Google Chrome

Yes, that’s right. Hold it, I’m not a bandwagoner. I just like it because:

It has a good user interface. The toolbars don’t take up so much space. I also like that the tabs are at the topmost portion of the browser.  It’s a genius idea really.

Conventional browsers have their tabs at the 2nd or 3rd row of the toolbar/menu.  The page titles shows on the tabs, as well as, on the window titlebar – a bit redundant.  Chrome removed the title from the titlebar and moved the tabs there, brilliant. Read more »

New Browser Competitor: Google Chrome

There’s a new browser in town: Google Chrome. If you can judge a book by its cover, I like it already. I like chrome, silver, aluminum and similar looking objects.

So why is Google doing this? Aside from the usual world domination (just kidding), they say they spend most of their time working inside a browser.  So, they thought of bringing together the “best elements out there”. Read more »
