Yahoo & Google learning to search for Flash-based content
Finally, Adobe, Google and Yahoo are working to enable search for Flash-based content. Me thinks Adobe is a bit slow in optimizing their Flash player technology.
One reason why most sites refrain from using Flash exclusively is because of its file size overhead. The other reason is SEO – it’s impossible to crawl Flash content.
So now they are addressing the SEO problem, I hope they are also starting with the file size issue.
The reason the file size of a Flash movie is big is all the components responsible for its rich features have to be dowloaded by the browser. A creature told me that Adobe was planning on installing these components in the Flash player itself. That way, a Flash movie will mostly only contain content (excluding rich UI components), making the file size significantly smaller. I can’t wait for this to happen.
So what is a Flash player and what is a Flash movie? I wish I could tell you but I have to get back to work.
