April Fool’s Day

I’m not much of a prankster so don’t expect any today, or any April Fool’s Day for that matter. I never realized the “significance” of this day is until I read a prank post.

Anywayz, let me share what I learned today.

It seems the origin of this celebration is not clear. One popular explanation traces its roots to 1564, when French King Charles IX decided to adopt the Gregorian calendar. This move shifted New Year’s Day from April 1 to January 1.

Some French citizens refused to follow the new calendar and continued to celebrate New Year on the first day of April. Others ridiculed this attachment to the old ways by sending silly gifts. This prank practice continued annually worldwide to become what is now known as April Fool’s Day.

Cheers!
