Manny Pacquiao vs Ricky Hatton

manny-pacquiao-ricky-hatton

The rumored Manny Pacquiao vs Ricky Hatton fight hits a snag.  Team Pacquiao insists on a 60-40 revenue sharing with the lion share, of course, being taken by Manny Pacquiao.  I’ve also read some reports that Team Pacquiao is even insisting on a 65-35 deal.

Ricky Hatton is insisting on a 50-50 deal because, one, it was already verbally guaranteed by promoter Bob Arum and, two, because, he’ll be bringing a lot of paying British folks.

Ricky Hatton’s lawyer points out that while Manny Pacquiao is big in the Philippines, Filipinos won’t go to Las Vegas or pay to watch via pay-per view.

I say Team Pacquiao should insist on the 60-40 deal.

Hatton’s camp is missing the point.  It is true that the fight won’t cash in from Filipinos but the world is going to pay to watch Manny Pacquiao fight, not Ricky Hatton! Following Ricky Hatton’s lawyer’s logic, they should try to promote a fight for Ricky Hatton without Manny Pacquiao as the opponent and see if they can rake in tons of money from the British fans!

Besides, you can see it from the De La Hoya fight, Ricky Hatton was itching to fight Manny Pacquiao.  I’m pretty sure he was itching to fight Manny Pacquiao for the money reason more than the excuse of beating the best pound for pound fighter in the world today.
