Garry Kasparov vs Anatoli Karpov, rematch!

Garry Kasparov and Anatoli Karpov, both chess legends, are seeking a rematch to revive the game of chess. Yes, I bet you didn’t know that there’s such a thing as “chess”. Quick, name me the current world chess champion. I bet 95% percent of you wouldn’t know without googling it. I don’t know either.
When I was 20 years younger (ehem!), I easily knew the answer – Garry Kasparov. Partly, because he was always the champion and nobody could defeat him until his protege, Vladimir Kramnik did. However, I’d like to think he was beaten because he was already past his prime.
I haven’t heard of Karpov (I never intended to since I hated him.) but I know Kasparov is active in Russian politics opposing the administration of Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
Here’s an interesting quote from Kasparov:
Kasparov, in an interview published Monday in the newspaper El Pais, called Karpov the greatest rival of his career and “my grandmaster, the one from whom I have learned the most, both in chess and in life.”
I thought he despised Karpov?!.
Interestingly, I read a long time ago he thought that Karpov was clairvoyant and was even trying to distract him telepathically (is there such a word?). There was no Internet then, when I read that article, so unfortunately I couldn’t quote it.
But, yeah, Kasparov vs. Karpov. That’s real chess.

They live in a strange world these grandmasters. Was it Karpov who was accused of taking with him to the game venue these individuals who had clairvoyant skills? Or was it Korchnoi. It was too long ago, but the import of the controversy was that these so-called clairvoyant persons could mess the opponent’s mind. How intriguing!
Yeah, the era of glamorous world chess championships had passed. What we have now are tacticians of the game. We miss these titans of the chess world. I’m glad they’re having this game.
I think it was Karpov. An interesting note, I read somewhere that Bobby Fischer claimed both Karpov and Kasparov were KGB agents sent to rig world chess.
