Terran Matthew, Premium Baby

There’s a new member of the family, Terran Matthew.
I thought I would never be a father. I was wrong. Sometime November October 2008, my wife and I planned to adopt. We decided to start looking around that time in hopes of actually adopting come year 2009. We decided to spend the rest of 2008 praying and asking for God’s guidance. Adoption is no joke. It has its own complications. We wanted to be sure that we were prepared, not only for parenthood, but for the complications of having an adopted child.
However, one fine November December day (still year 2008), my wife called me to come home early because she was sick. When I arrived, she told me she was pregnant. It was the best news I’ve ever heard all my life. Yes, she really wasn’t sick. She just wanted me to come home early for her to deliver the good news.
My wife’s pregnancy did not go smoothly. She suffered from subchorionic hemorrhage. She also suffered from low amniotic fluid. My baby had nuchal cord coil but it wasn’t really looped around his neck, but imagine the agony of monitoring him move. What if the chord finally coiled around his neck?
When we first learned of the cord coil, about 7 to 8 months in, we decided to go to the hospital everyday to have him NST-ed (Fetal Non-Stress Test). It’s some test to determine if the baby’s heartbeat is normal. If the chord coil strangles the baby, he would fail the NST and could be delivered premature.
We were in and out of the hospital two times (actual admittance) even before my baby was delivered! This is because of the unstable quantity of amniotic fluid in my wife’s belly.
All that we went through, it was all worth it ‘coz now we have the prize. Our very own baby Terran Matthew.
From one struggle to the next…
